Get it on sale or something, don't pay the full price.RPG MAKER VX ACE RUNTIME PACKAGE VER. I have (mostly) enjoyed my time using the software, although admittedly I feel like $70.00 for software that's a decade old is far too much, it doesn't help how often the continue to release "new" versions.
I realize some of the processes can't be helped, but after reading the guide on how to do it, I may either pass it over entirely or pay someone else to do it for me.Īt the end of the day this is half-way decent software that has some weird limitations. To be honest, the process is far more involved than I may care to attempt. One other thing, when this software came out, they made it a big deal to point out you can port your games to Android, I've looked it up because if I ever finish my project, I'd like to consider the possibility of selling in on Android. It's really frustrating and feels really unnecessary.ĭon't tell me I don't need more, this is a preference and I *want* more. Sometimes I want or need one thing from another tile set and then I have to get what I want, copy and paste it into the tiles I am currently using for that map. I really don't understand why we can't have more. Is there any justifiable reason that they continue to only allow this limited number of layers?įurther, I am annoyed that they continue to place limits on the tile's size and the number of tabs you have. You can use the events dropper to place one other tile and have it set to autorun to change it's image to what you want. I personally say the software has a total of three layers, A is one, B,C,D and E is another. Sometimes I simply badly want to put something somewhere I cannot because I maxed out what I can place. Speaking of layers, I don't really understand why RPG Maker VX Ace continues to limit the number of layers player can use. I honestly don't know why the software doesn't just have a eraser icon on the tool bar to erase stuff, instead you need to go to the tile's page you used and use a blank tile to erase that layer. For starters I feel like the UI is confusing, some of the terminology was poorly planned making it confusing sometimes. With that being said, you know, I do have complaints.
I feel like a beginner could absolutely use the base tools without any sort of actual programming to create a game from start to finish. While RPG Maker does allow for people to go hog-wild and free hand program scripts and events, it also provides a fantastic suite of tools that can help automate a lot of the things you may want to do, anywhere from a few clicks to generating a treasure chest complete with loot, passages, tinting the screen, editing items, players and monsters, as well as more complicated stuff, like a series of conditional branches, or dice rolls. I first started off just playing around with the software and as I began to gain confidence, started looking up videos how to do basic stuff and then applied my knowledge from there. When I first started working with VX Ace, it was really intimidating and honestly I was super confused. They provide everything you'd need to make a basic RPG. It's kind of plain and generic if I am being honest, but it gets the job done and it isn't an eyesore. I appreciate the fact that the game comes with a base RTP. This year I had an idea and I kind of dived in head first. I've been aware of the software since High School but never really bothered with it.
